Before You Update Your Resume, Answer These 7 Questions

Thinking about a career change?

Before updating your resume or applying for another job, pause. Over the past 12+ years, I've coached accomplished professionals and leaders through career transitions and pivotal decisions. These are seven of the questions I return to most often because they consistently reveal what matters.

Take your time. There are no right or wrong answers. The goal isn't to finish quickly. It's to notice what your answers reveal.

  1. What do I really want?

  2. What part of me is compromised right now?

  3. What worked in my career, and what didn't?

  4. What are my non-negotiables?

  5. What's unique about me?

  6. What story am I telling myself that's no longer true?

  7. What decision have I already made, but haven't admitted to myself?

These questions are adapted from my book, Finding Passion, and have evolved through years of coaching leaders through career transitions.

What did your answers reveal?

If you find yourself circling the same answers or wanting to explore what they mean for your next chapter, coaching can help.

Career clarity doesn't come from having more options. It comes from understanding yourself well enough to choose what fits.
